The El Paso City Council is taking action to stop shady water solicitations that have been showing up in El Paso mailboxes.
During its meeting Tuesday, April 28, the City Council is expected to approve a plan that would require any commercial solicitations from businesses related to “water quality, water safety, water testing, water treatment, water filtration, or any service that represents, directly or indirectly, that it evaluates, affects, or improves water quality” to clearly show that they are not affiliated with El Paso Water.
“Residents in El Paso have raised ongoing concerns about commercial solicitations related to water quality, testing, filtration, and treatment that are presented in a manner resembling official communications,” a document accompanying Tuesday’s agenda stated. “In particular, residents have reported receiving door hangers, mailers, and other materials that appear to be affiliated with El Paso Water but are in fact advertisements from private companies.”

The City Council will also vote on adding data center policies to its state and federal legislative priorities during its meeting Tuesday.
Among the data center policies being considered are the following:
“City Council has a responsibility to ensure that economic development policy and legislative advocacy reflect long-term fiscal sustainability, infrastructure capacity, environmental stewardship, and community benefit.,” a document accompanying Tuesday’s agenda states. “As data center development continues to increase across Texas and the nation, state and federal policy decisions are shaping the financial, environmental and infrastructure impacts experienced by municipalities.”
