Texas Tech Softball clinches Big 12 title, sweeps Arizona State

The championship machine in Lubbock just keeps on humming. No. 4 Texas Tech Softball (47-4, 19-2) locked down its second straight Big 12 Conference regular season championship on Sunday, completing a clean, clinical sweep of No. 24 Arizona State with a 7-1 win.

This wasn’t just another victory; it was a tone-setter, and a reminder that the road to Oklahoma City runs straight through the Red Raiders roster. Behind another composed outing from NiJaree Canady with timely power at the plate, Texas Tech continues to separate from the pack, building momentum with postseason play quickly approaching.

Power, Precision, and a Proven Ace

At the center of it all is NiJaree Canady, who picked up her 20th win for the Red Raiders. With five innings, three hits, four strikeouts, and zero earned runs, she was efficient, controlled, and relentless on the mound. Behind Canady, the offense delivered with authority:

Add in RBIs from Hailey Toney and Victoria Valdez, and you’ve got a lineup that knows how to compound pressure inning after inning.

How It Unfolded

Texas Tech eased into the game, but as soon as the second inning hit, there was no looking back. Jasmyn Burns sparked it off early with a single, followed by Hailey Toney’s double in the game’s first run. Victoria Valdez added another via productive outs. Arizona State managed to push one run across, but that was all they could muster.

From there, it was lights out, as Taylor Panell launched her eighth home run of the season in the third inning. Mia Williams opened the sixth with a homer of her own, while Mihyia Davis manufactured a run with pure chaos, and Williams capped it off with an RBI single.

From there, Samantha Lincoln closed the final two innings, allowing just one hit before slamming the door on the night.

What’s Next

Texas Tech now stands alone as the only current Big 12 program with multiple regular-season softball titles. They return home to take on Tarleton State on Tuesday before hosting Baylor. The Lady Raiders will also enter the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed at Devon Park in Oklahoma City on May 7.
