Ventura man barricaded in home after alleged domestic incident

A Ventura man is barricaded inside his home, while Ventura Police Department officers were asking him to come out April 22, according to authorities.

Around 5 p.m., Ventura Police responded to a call from neighbors reporting hearing yelling from a house on Buena Vista Street at Aliso Street, said Cmdr. Todd Hourigan of the department.

Officers arrived and found a Ventura woman in her 70s, who said she was allegedly injured during the domestic dispute with her husband, also in his 70s, he said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and her husband refused to come out and barricaded himself inside his home, Hourigan said.

About 10 police officers were initially deployed to respond to the incident, he said.

Officers found the man has a gun registered in his name and activated a SWAT team, K-9 unit, crisis negotiators and a drone team, Hourigan said.

A couple of houses adjacent have been evacuated and some traffic control is in place on scene, the commander said.

No other details were available.
