An Apple Valley man received a prison sentence of 78 years to life this week for killing a man and wounding two other people in a shooting outside the Whiskey Barrel Saloon in Hesperia five years ago.
Eddie Parks, 44, was convicted in March of murder and two counts of attempted murder in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court, records show. The sentencing took place on Wednesday, April 22.
The shooting took place during the early-morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 13, in the parking lot the Whiskey Barrel Saloon, 12055 Mariposa Road in Hesperia.
It claimed the life of 44-year-old Steven Davis, as well as left another man and a woman wounded, authorities said.
The conviction was the result of a plea deal, court documents show. Additional charges and sentence-enhancing special allegations were dismissed under the agreement.
The shooting
The gunfire took place about 2 a.m. outside the restaurant and bar, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said at the time.
In addition to Davis, a 29-year-old woman from Victorville and a 38-year-old man from Temecula were also found suffering from gunshot wounds.
No suspect was found at the scene.
But investigators soon identified Parks as the shooter and obtained an arrest warrant, sheriff’s officials said.
He was taken into custody at a Hesperia home two days later on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021.
