Softball
Tallmadge 10, Aurora 4
Both the Blue Devils and Greenmen hit prodigious homers in the fifth inning after the teams were tied at two through four.
The difference?
Tallmadge’s Sophia Paonessa’s blast over the center-field wall was a three-run homer to take a 5-2 lead. And Aurora’s Lila Bultrowicz’s towering shot to left was a solo homer to draw within 5-3.
Not that the Blue Devils were content with that lead, knowing how dangerous the Greenmen lineup is. Tallmadge tacked on two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to remain ahead. Catcher Allison Tyler played a big role in both innings, with a double to put runners on second and third with no outs in the sixth and a two-run single up the middle in the seventh that was a dagger of sorts.
Both teams finished with 13 hits, including three hits from Aurora sophomore Reese Witting. Six of the Greenmen’s hits went for extra bases, with five doubles to go with the Bultrowicz homer.
Both teams control their destiny going forward in the Suburban American title race after splitting their season series. Tallmadge is 8-1 in league play while Aurora is 7-1.
Cardinal Mooney 7, Southeast 1
The Cardinals jumped in front with two runs in the first and four in the second.
The Pirates fell despite Morgan Muncy’s 4 for 4 performance, including a double and a triple.
Baseball
Southeast 5, Brookfield 3
The Pirates pulled off the sweep, answering the Warriors’ three-run top of the first with a four-run bottom of the first. Cohen Richardson had two hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs. He also tossed three innings of scoreless relief for Southeast.
Roosevelt 3, Barberton 2
Down 2-0, the Rough Riders rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to move to 6-1 in the Suburban American. Teddy Maccarone had the game-tying, two-run single while Rocco Baggetta drove home the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Aiken Benshoff got the start for Roosevelt and allowed two runs (one earned) in 4⅔ innings while Lucas Poluga got the win with 1⅓ perfect innings of relief. Owen Puhalla pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to record the save.
Mogadore 7, Garfield 3
Jaykob Dasco tossed a complete game for the Wildcats, scattering three runs (all unearned) on five hits and two walks. Tyler Pendergast and Maddox Smith were highly effective atop the Mogadore lineup, going a combined 4 for 8 with two runs and two RBIs. Jake Hopkins had three hits, including a double from the cleanup spot, and all nine Wildcats starters recorded at least one hit.
Jared Cardinal doubled for the G-Men while Brandyn Bogucki reached base twice with a walk and a single.
Berkshire 6, Rootstown 1
The Badgers answered the Rovers’ run in the bottom of the first with four in the top of the second. Sam Barcikoski yielded a run on five hits in his five innings to get the win, with nine strikeouts and just one walk. He also had a hit, a run and two RBIs at the plate. Patrick Brancel also played a leading role with two hits, two RBIs and a run.

Softball
Southeast 11, Brookfield 7 (9)
The Pirates prevailed in a wild extra-inning game along the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line. Tied at three, Southeast surged into the lead with a four-run top of the seventh only for Brookfield to answer with four in the bottom of the inning. The Pirates struck again for four runs in the top of the ninth and this time blanked the Warriors in the bottom of the frame. Savannah Powell pitched the scoreless ninth for Southeast (7-2, 6-0 MVAC Grey) while Lylia Lavigna paced the lineup with a game-high four hits and two doubles. Morgan Muncy added three hits for the Pirates, including a triple, while Kirsten Harvey, Lily Hayes, Bella Mowery, Neena Truex and Powell tallied two hits apiece.
Rootstown 14, Crestwood 4
Reise Thomas led the charge for the Rovers, coming a triple shy of the cycle. The Rootstown shortstop finished with a single, double and homer and scored four runs. Morgan Giebel also had a huge game for the Rovers, going 4 for 5 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs. Katie Sisley got the win for Rootstown (8-4, 6-0 Chagrin Valley Conference), allowing just an unearned run in five innings of work and striking out eight.
Field 7, Norton 2
The Falcons remained undefeated in Metro Athletic Conference play, breaking a 2-2 tie with five runs in the sixth. Sophia Roberts drove in two runs for Field (9-2, 4-0) while Adrianna Berry tossed a complete game in the circle.
Baseball
Rootstown 7, Berkshire 6 (8)
The Badgers rallied from a 6-2 deficit to force extra innings, but the Rovers (3-5, 2-3 CVC) prevailed in the eighth. Rootstown led 6-2 after scoring three runs apiece in the second and third innings. Berkshire scored in three straight innings to tie the score, including a two-run bottom of the seventh. After the Rovers took the lead in the top of the eighth, Anthony Pratt pitched a scoreless bottom of the inning. Pratt pitched two innings in all, striking out four while allowing a single unearned run. He also had a pair of doubles, two runs and two RBIs at the plate. Bryce Harless also had a big game for Rootstown with two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Field 4, Norton 3
The Falcons handed the undefeated Panthers their first loss behind a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Cultrona doubled and drove in two for Field (8-2, 4-2 Metro Athletic Conference) while Caden Corbett singled twice, stole two bases, scored a run and drove in a run. Caden Kolesar got the win on the mound, moving to 2-0 after he came on in the second and went the rest of the way for the Falcons, limiting the Panthers to a single run.
Southeast 17, Brookfield 6
The Pirates scored multiple runs in six of seven innings to remain perfect in league play. Nine-hitter Maverick Wood reached in all five of his plate appearances with three hits (including a triple) and two walks, scoring three runs and driving in four. All told, Southeast’s last four hitters in the order — Alaunte Massrock, Nate Muccino, Joe Sharish and Wood — went a combined 9 of 14 with nine RBIs and 11 runs. Muccino also tossed 3⅓ scoreless innings in relief for the Pirates (7-1, 5-0 MVAC Grey).
Streetsboro 10, Springfield 2
The Rockets erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to surge past the Spartans. Joey DeToro reached base in four of five plate appearances with a single, double and two walks to go with two runs and two RBIs. Colton Cox also had two hits, including a double, for Streetsboro (6-5, 5-2 MAC). Brady Long got the win on the mound, allowing two runs in 5⅔ innings.
