The Spring 2026 Student Art Exhibit opens Thursday at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, a media release said.
The exhibit will run through May 15 in the Dorothy and Wendell Mayes Art Gallery in the university’s Doakie Day Art Center and is presented by HPU’s Department of Art.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. every weekday. The opening reception was set for 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday with Studios 1 and 2 in the Art Annex open for visitors to stroll through and see more student work in progress.
A wide range of creative work will be shown, including art from ceramic and drawing courses held during the current academic year. Pieces created in the Contemporary Crafts course will include linoleum block prints, handmade books and weaving.
“I have enjoyed the extraordinary opportunity of working with some of the most talented drawing students I have ever had the privilege to teach,” drawing instructor Sally Davis said in the media release.
Julie Mize, instructor of the Contemporary Crafts and Ceramics courses, said the arts students have been very enthusiastic this year.
“It has been exciting for me to work with students as they started with techniques and used those with their own ideas to make so many interesting artworks,” Mize said in the media release. “In each class, I have watched students’ creativity flourish.”
