PANAMA CITY— A Bay County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.
A release from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Anthony Sitzler was arrested following an incident on April 15.
“An investigation was initiated following information received regarding a domestic incident,” the release said. “During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Sitzler had been involved in a physical altercation with his significant other.”
BCSO said an investigation found that Sitzler put his hands around the victim’s neck during the altercation.
Sitzler was arrested without incident and taken to the Bay County Jail. BCSO has initiated an internal review and Sitzler was fired from his position.
Sitzler’s case docket in the Clerk of Court shows that he was arrested on April 20. His bond was set at $2,000, and a court date was set for May 18. Sitzler does not appear in the Bay County Jail’s inmate lookup.
Sitzler’s hiring was announced in a Facebook post by BCSO on Dec. 18, 2023.
Sitzler is the third Bay County deputy arrested in seven months. Carlon Price was charged with grand theft and official misconduct in February, and Gabriel Medina was charged with sexual battery by a person in a position of authority in October.
