Texas A&M’s first season under head coach Bucky McMillan checks every box for a successful Year One. The Aggies won 20‑plus games, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and shattered preseason expectations after being picked near the bottom of the SEC. Considering McMillan inherited a roster with one returning player when he arrived, the turnaround is a testament to his system, his staff, and the buy‑in he generated in less than 12 months.
Now comes the most challenging phase of modern college basketball. Free agency, better known as the transfer portal.
Unlike last offseason, McMillan and his staff will begin the cycle on equal footing with the rest of the country. His up‑tempo, spacing‑heavy style has proven it can win in the SEC, and winning inevitably makes your top players highly sought after. At the same time, it gives the staff a chance to be more selective, targeting players who fit the system rather than simply filling a roster from scratch.
The task ahead is significant. Several contributors have exhausted their eligibility, and only a handful of returners are locked in for next season. That guarantees plenty of new faces in Aggieland once again.
To keep track of the movement, here is the updated Texas A&M transfer portal tracker, including who’s leaving and who’s on the way.
