The Guardians (12-10) lead the American League Central Division by a half-game over the Minnesota Twins (11-10) and Detroit Tigers (11-10) entering Sunday’s games.

Here’s is what you need to know before today’s first pitch:

Guardians go down 1-2-3 on three strikeouts in sixth, still lead 6-4

Tyler Wells, a 6-foot-8, 260-pound right-hander, takes over for Orioles starter Trevor Rogers and strikes out Juan Brito, Austin Hedges and Brayan Rocchio in order. The Guardians lead 6-4 through six innings.

Guardians reliever Peyton Pallette retires Orioles 1-2-3 in sixth

Peyton Pallette, the third Guardians pitcher, strikes out Sam Huff leading off the Orioles sixth, gets Blaze Alexander to fly out to right and Taylor Ward to line out to left on a diving catch by Angel Martinez. The Guardians lead 6-4 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

Jose Ramirez hits his second HR of the game to give Guardians 6-4 lead through 5 innings

After Angel Martinez fouls out to the catcher, Jose Ramirez does another Jose Ramirez thing, blasting his second home run of the game to left field. That makes this Ramirez’s 28th multi-home run game, the most in team history. Rhys Hoskins pops out to second and David Fry draws a walk on a 10-pitch at-bat before Daniel Schneemann strikes out swinging to end the inning. The Guardians lead 6-4 through five innings.

Orioles knock Guardians starter Joey Cantillo from game, score 4 runs in fifth inning

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo quicky gets into trouble in the Orioles fifth, walking Coby Mayo to lead off and giving up a single to Sam Huff to put runners on first and second with no outs. Blaze Alexander flies out to center but Taylor Ward makes Cantillo pay with a home run to left, cutting the Guardians’ lead to 5-3. Gunnar Henderson flies out to right, but Pete Alonso singles to center to bring the tying run to the plate. Cantillo is then pulled from the game after he walks Johnathan Rodriguez on four pitches. Matt Festa induces Jeremiah Jackson to hit a soft grounder to second, but Juan Brito’s errant throw pulls Rhys Hopkins off the bag to load the bases. Pinch hitter Dylan Beavers hits a grounder up the middle, but Jackson beats Brito’s throw to second as another run scores. With the bases still loaded, Mayo flies out to shallow center to end the inning. The Guardians still lead, but now it’s just 5-4.

Jose Ramirez hits home run in 4-run Guardians fourth inning

Jose Ramirez hits a 408-foot home run to left field on the first pitch of the Guardians fourth. After Orioles lefty Trevor Rogers retires Rhys Hoskins on a pop fly behind first base, David Fry hits a soft single to left and Daniel Schneemann draws a walk. That sets the stage for Juan Brito, who blasts a double to straightaway center to score two more runs. Rogers comes back to get Austin Hedges on a groundout to short, but Brayan Rocchio scores Brito with a line single to left before Steven Kwan strikes out looking to end the inning. The Guardians lead 5-0 heading to the fifth inning.

Guardians’ Joey Cantillo strikes out the side swinging in the Orioles fourth

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo strikes out the side swinging in the fourth inning. After Pete Alonso and Johnathan Rodriguez whiff, Jeremiah Jackson lines a single to left and steals second. But Cantillo then fans Weston Wilson to end the inning. Guardians lead 1-0 and are coming to bat in the fourth.

Guardians take advantage of Orioles error, lead 1-0 on Steven Kwan’s sacrifice fly

After Juan Brito strikes out swinging, Austin Hedges reaches first when Orioles starter Trevor Rogers misses the bag after catching a throw from first baseman Pete Alonso. Brayan Rocchio follows with a line single to right-center, sending Hedges to third. Steven Kwan hits a sacrifice fly to center to score Hedges and advance Rocchio to second. Orioles starter Trevor Rogers then gets Angel Martinez to fly out to center on a sinking liner to end the inning. Guardians lead 1-0 going to the fourth inning.

Guardians right fielder David Fry makes diving catch to end Orioles’ 1-2-3 third inning

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo sets the Orioles down 1-2-3 in the third inning, but it wasn’t easy. Blaze Alexander flies out to right field and Taylor Ward flies out to center, but Gunnar Henderson hits a drive into the gap in right-center that looks like a sure double until right fielder David Fry makes a diving catch to retire the side.

It’s 3 up and 3 down for Guardians in second inning vs. Orioles lefty Trevor Rogers

Trevor Rogers mows down the Guardians in the second inning. Rhys Hopkins pops out to second base, David Fry strikes out looking, costing the Guardians one of their pitch challenges, and Daniel Schneemann pops out to first. It’s still scoreless going to the third inning.

Orioles get runner to second base, but Guardians left-hander Joey Castillo gets out of trouble again in second inning

After Jeremiah Jackson strikes out, Weston Wilson is hit on the foot by a pitch and steals second on the first pitch to Coby Mayo. Guardians lefty Joey Castillo again gets out of trouble by striking out Mayo and Sam Huff. It’s still scoreless with Guardians coming to bat in the second.

Orioles starter Trevor Rogers sets Guardians down 1-2-3 in first inning

Orioles starter Trevor Rogers has no trouble with the Guardians in the first inning. He gets Steven Kwan to line out to left, Angel Martinez to ground out to third and Jose Ramirez to strike out swinging. It’s 0-0 going to the second inning.

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo works out of trouble in top of 1st inning

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo gets in quick trouble and just as quickly gets out of it. Taylor Ward hits a lead-off single and Gunnar Henderson draws a walk to put runners on first and second. But Cantillo induces Pete Alonso to fly out to center and Johnathan Rodriguez to bounce into a double play. It’s 0-0 going to the bottom of the first.

Saturday’s game: Gavin Williams, Brayan Rocchio power Guardians to win over Orioles

Brayan Rocchio hit a three-run homer and Gavin Williams pitched seven strong innings to lead the Cleveland Guardians to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, April 18.

Bo Naylor also homered for the Guardians, who won for just the second time in the past five games. Cleveland had just three hits.

Williams (3-1) struck out 11 and allowed one run, three hits and one walk. It was the second time this season and sixth time overall he has struck out 10 or more in a game.

Cade Smith struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save.

Leody Taveras and Gunnar Henderson (two hits) hit solo homers for Baltimore, which had just four hits while losing for the fourth time in the past five games.

Dean Kremer (0-1) pitched six innings for the Orioles and gave up three runs and two hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

Baltimore’s Pete Alonso and Colin Cowser struck out in all four at-bats. Dylan Beavers fanned three times as 16 Orioles went down on strikes.

Taveras came up with one out in the fourth and drilled a 1-0 curveball from Williams over the fence to right for the game’s first run.

Meanwhile, Kremer tossed 4⅓ no-hit innings and his walk to Rhys Hoskins was followed by Daniel Schneemann’s line single to right. After Naylor struck out, Rocchio jumped on a 2-2 fastball from Kremer and deposited the ball over the fence in right to give the Guardians a 3-1 lead.

Williams picked up where he left off after the Taveras homer by retiring the final 11 batters he faced.

Hunter Gaddis replaced Williams and Henderson touched him up for a one-out solo shot to right in the eighth.

But Naylor got the run back leading off the bottom of the inning when he launched a 1-1 changeup from Albert Suarez into the bleachers in right.

Smith fanned Beavers, Cowser and Taveras while closing it out as Cleveland gained a 2-1 edge in a series that concludes Sunday.
