A sixth Wisconsin Badgers men’s hockey player has signed a professional contract.
Former Badgers forward Jack Horbach has signed an AHL contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2026-27 season.

The Penguins AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, has already clinched a playoff berth.
Horbach spent all four of his collegiate seasons in Madison. He recorded 39 career points in 142 games played. Of those 39 points, he scored 16 goals and had 23 assists.
Most importantly, Horbach scored the game-winning goal in the Badgers Regional Semifinal matchup in this year’s NCAA tournament against Dartmouth.
A few years ago, Horbach took home the Badgers’ Mike Richter Most Competitive Player Award. That honor was earned during his sophomore season, where he had career highs in goals (6), assists (8), and points (14).
The Penguins also announced they would be signing Maleek McGowan, a player Horbach got to know quite a bit as both spent all four years in the Big Ten. The defenseman split his time between Ohio State and Michigan. Their third signing included defenseman Maleek McGowan out of the Ontario Hockey League.
