One of Sarasota’s most iconic restaurants — recently named one of Florida’s best steakhouses — is set to welcome one of the nation’s most famous TV personalities.
Guy Fieri is swinging by Alpine Steakhouse and Butcher Shop this week and next, as his crew updates the most memorable dining spots in the region for “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on the Food Network.
Fieri first visited the restaurant and meat market at 4520 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, in August 2007, in part to highlight the restaurant’s turducken.
Alpine broke the news of the celebrity chef’s visit April 8 on social media.
“Alpine Steakhouse is chosen to highlight our Chimichurri skirt steak and German Sausage Sampler both available in (the) restaurant and Clams Oreganata available retail in the butcher shop.
“Per Guy our Turducken ‘over the top bird’ will also be mentioned,” the Facebook post continued.
Food Network could not immediately be reached for comment.
What’s special about Alpine Steakhouse in Sarasota?
The family-run Alpine Steakhouse has been serving Sarasota since 1975. It’s where discerning locals go for excellent steaks, sides (and burgers).
All the steaks are hand-cut, USDA Prime, and dry-aged 14 days, from the filet mignon to the T-bone.
One Alpine favorite highlighted in a USA TODAY Network article about the “best local steakhouses worth the road trip in Florida” is the Delmonico.
“This thick-cut ribeye style dates back to 19th-century New York, and Alpine’s take — a 14-ounce prime boneless ribeye cooked perfectly (medium rare for yours truly), seasoned just right, and finished with a beautiful crosshatched char — was a standout on our recent visit, especially at a very reasonable $59,” reads the story published Dec. 12.
What did Guy Fieri say on his first visit to Alpine Steakhouse?
“Nobody does it like this anymore, man,” Fieri told the Herald-Tribune while surveying the retail butcher’s counter that takes up the south side of the restaurant space.
“I mean, the turducken, it’s not just the turkey and the duck and the … this guy makes his own sausage, for god’s sake.
“He roasts the peppers he puts into it. He’s cooking the spinach. He’s doing it all.”
