The week of March 29-April 4 was the first full week of high school spring sports in Iowa.
The outdoor season of high school girls track and field got fully underway, and it was the opening week for girls soccer and golf. Girls and co-ed track and field events took place at Waukee, Bondurant and Alleman, and there were some exciting girls soccer games featuring teams from the Des Moines metro area.
There were several standout performances from female high school athletes from the metro area during the week.

Elise Coghlan, ADM
Coghlan placed first in the 400-meter hurdle race for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn girls track and field team at the Northwest Invitational on March 30 in Waukee.
Coghlan won the race with the fastest time in the state thus far, according to Varsity Bound. She crossed the finish line in one minute, 3.05 seconds.
Reese Wagner, North Polk
Wagner recorded the state’s top jump in the girls high jump so far during the North Polk Invitational on March 31 in Alleman.
Wagner, the defending 3A state champion in the event, cleared the bar at five feet, eight inches. She outdistanced the rest of the field by eight inches.
Alayna Goldsberry, Southeast Polk
Goldsberry had a dominant showing in sprinting events during the Southeast Polk Invitational girls track and field meet on March 31 in Pleasant Hill.
Goldsberry won both the open 100 and 200 races for the Rams. She clocked in at 12.24 in the 100 and 25.18 in the 200.
Alayna Williams, Carlisle
Williams had a dominant performance on offense in helping the Carlisle girls soccer team overwhelm Knoxville by a 10-1 score to open the season on April 2 at Knoxville.
Williams put five goals into the net for the Wildcats. She put constant pressure on the Knoxville defense all game, finishing the night with 13 shots on goal.
Julia Teigland, Van Meter
Teigland helped the Van Meter girls soccer team cruise to a 10-0 victory over Des Moines Hoover on April 2 in Des Moines.
Teigland had a hand in five goals for the Bulldogs in their season opener. She scored three goals to pick up a hat-trick and chipped in two assists.
