Coach K on playing national championship in Indy: 'Holy crap. this is magnificent'

If the Final Four ever had only one home, Mike Krzyzewski knows where he’d want it.

The retired Duke coach who led the Blue Devils to the 2010 and ’15 championships at Lucas Oil Stadium told Pat McAfee: “It’s as good a place to play the Final Four as there is.”

“I can remember walking up for the championship game and thinking how beautiful it was. I’m like, ‘Holy crap. this is magnificent.'”

Krzyzewski hopes this year’s Final Four entrants — Michigan, Arizona, Illinois and Connecticut — appreciate the scene.

“Saturday’s a moment in time for all these teams. Four champions under one roof,” he said. “It’s the best day in college basketball.”

“Nothing against all the other venues, but if they ever have a permanent home for it, it would be there,” he added, noting that the stadium is near the NCAA’s headquarters, where issues revolving around player participation and compensation rules could be discussed and — maybe — resolved.

Duke also won the 1991 championship at the old Hoosier Dome.
