MAMAKATING – A man died in a house fire on Linda Lane in the Town of Mamakating the night of March 18, state police reported.
According to state police, a preliminary investigation found that a neighbor heard a loud noise outside, and then saw the house fully engulfed in flames at approximately 8:40 p.m.
The neighbor immediately called 911.
When state police from the Wurtsboro barracks arrived at the scene, they learned from the Bloomingburg Fire Department that someone was believed to be inside the house.
After the fire was extinguished, first responders found a dead man inside the home, authorities said.
He was identified by state police as Yitzchak Vann, 64, of Bloomingburg.
The fire is believed to have started in the vicinity of the kitchen.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene to assist the Bloomingburg Fire Department. They included the Wurtsboro Fire Department, Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Summitville Fire Company, Westbrookville Volunteer Fire Company, Bullville Fire Company, Pine Bush Fire House, Circleville Fire House, Walker Valley Fire Company and Otisville Fire Department.
Mamakating EMS, Rock Hill EMS, Hatzolah EMS and the Sullivan County Paramedic also responded to the scene.
State police said the investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, but at this time no evidence of criminal activity has been identified.
