It’s again time to help choose the Guthrie Athlete of the Week, with 10 standout Section 4 performers candidates for the honor for events of April 18-24, 2026.

Guthrie Athlete of the Week nominees are from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.

Voting will be open until noon Thursday, April 30.

This week’s nominees:

Josh Kweller, Vestal baseball: In three victories over Johnson City, Kweller went a combined 8-for-9 at the plate with a double, triple, and 7 RBIs.

Hannah Lasko, Thomas A. Edison girls track & field: Lasko won the 200-meter dash (26.37) and the 400 (1:00.9) at Elmira’s Waite-Molnar Invitational.

Makenzie Lombardini, Chenango Valley/Johnson City girls lacrosse: Lombardini registered 4 goals and 3 assists while recording her 300th career point during a victory over Binghamton. She added 5 goals and 2 assists in a victory over Seton Catholic Central.

Cella McLaughlin, Corning girls track & field: McLaughlin was a winner in the 100-meter dash (12.07) and the 100 hurdles (13.85) at the Waite-Molnar Invitational. She placed 10th in the long jump at the Penn Relays. Earlier in the week, she won the 100 hurdles (14.03) at a tri-meet with Union-Endicott and Maine-Endwell.

Aedan Palmer, Elmira baseball: Palmer struck out 14 in pitching a 2-hitter in a victory over Ithaca. At the plate in three games, Palmer went 4-for-9 with 3 RBIs.

Jack Pipher, Waverly baseball: Over four Waverly victories, Pipher went 6-for-10 with 3 doubles, a triple, and 8 RBIs. He drove in 5 runs in a win over Vestal.

Jace Schiller, Thomas A. Edison baseball: In two victories over Whitney Point, Schiller went 3-for-4 with 2 homers after going 3-for-3 with 2 doubles.

Danasia Thompkins, Elmira Notre Dame softball: Thompkins had back-to-back games in which she went 2-for-3 with a homer and double. She had 5 RBIs and 4 runs in the two contests.

Olivia Virgil, Maine-Endwell softball: Virgil went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and 8 RBIs in a victory over Binghamton. She surrendered 1 run on 7 hits in 6 innings in the circle in a win against Chittenango Valley, and was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs in a win over Fayetteville-Manlius.

Brynna Walsh, Corning girls lacrosse: In three Corning games, all victories, Walsh tallied 12 goals and 11 assists. She capped her week with 4 goals and 7 assists in a victory over Queensbury.
