DELTA TWP. – A suspect is in custody after police announced they responded to an active violence incident the evening of Friday, Feb. 13.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, with the assistance of Michigan State Police, took a suspect into custody following an incident that began about 5:30 p.m. in the area of Green Meadows Drive and Farmstead Lane in the township. Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich in a Facebook post said the incident is “an active homicide situation.”

“There is no longer any danger to the public. Our Detective Bureau is on scene. Our hearts go out to the community and the victims involved.”

Reich did not release any specifics on the number of victims involved or what led to the incident, adding the department was not releasing further information as of about 8 p.m. Friday night.

Officials described the incident as both an active violence and an active shooter situation. Eaton County Emergency Management posted on Facebook about 7:30 p.m. that a “shooter” was in custody.

A county spokesperson also released a statement about 8:30 p.m. but it contained no additional information from Reich’s statement.

The department asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Det. Lt. Campbell at 517-243-9394.
