The San Francisco 49ers need to find a couple of new stars in the 2026 draft to begin building a new core as their old core begins aging out. A mass exodus of free agents in the 2025 offseason looks like it’ll put them in position to add a few more picks in the middle rounds.
Over the Cap, a site with a good handle on the NFL’s compensatory pick formula, projects San Francisco will receive a pair of fourth-round picks and a fifth-round choice for some of their key losses in the 2025 offseason.
Left guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Charvarius Ward are both set to fetch the 49ers comp picks in the fourth round. Safety Talanoa Hufanga is in line to get San Francisco an additional fifth-round selection.
Here’s a look at the 49ers’ slate of draft picks if OTC’s projection is correct:
The 49ers dealt their own fifth-round choice to the Philadelphia Eagles for defensive end Bryce Huff before the season.
They sent out their sixth-rounder to the New England Patriots for defensive end Keion White.
They also lost their seventh-round choice in a 2024 trade for defensive tackle Khalil Davis.
Per OTC, the 49ers had three free agent additions that offset a trio of their free agent losses.
They would’ve gotten a fifth-round pick for offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, a sixth-rounder for linebacker Dre Greenlaw and a seventh-rounder for quarterback Joshua Dobbs. They were cancelled out by wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, tight end Luke Farrell and QB Mac Jones.
