The Hesperia man was driving a 2005 Honda north along the road at an undetermined speed prior to the crash, the CHP said in a written statement. The Apple Valley woman was headed southbound in a 2007 Nissan at roughly 50 mph.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Honda veered from the northbound lane into the southbound lane directly into the path of travel of the Nissan,” according to the statement.

The front of the Nissan ended up striking the passenger side of the Honda.

The driver of the Honda died from his injuries at the scene, officials said. His identity was yet to be released by San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.

Paramedics took the driver of the Nissan to a hospital for treatment. An update on her condition was not available.

The cause and circumstances of the crash remained under investigation, however, impaired driving was not initially suspected as a factor.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, can reach the CHP’s Victorville Area Office at (760) 241-1186.
