There were 8,583 votes cast this week in the race for the Daily Press High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Silverado football player Jayden Pauling ended with 51.3% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The star football player received 4,403 votes, beating out 10 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Pauling never really came off the field as the Hawks pulled off a 27-24 victory over Granite Hills on Oct. 30. Pauling caught three passes for 105 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown. Also took three handoffs in the fourth quarter for 14 yards. He recorded six tackles on defense and punted the ball four times for a total of 96 yards, including a 64-yarder that pinned Granite Hills deep in its own territory.
In the voting, Pauling beat Apple Valley football player Brent Lanning, who received 32.08% at 2,753 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between Oct. 27 to Nov. 1.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
