While the start of the 2026-2027 college basketball season is a year away, the Longhorns already know some of their opponents. On Thursday, they were one of the four programs selected to participate in the Rady Children’s Invitational. They will be joined by Georgetown, Saint Mary’s, and UCLA.
Next year will make the fourth year of the tournament. It features two games each day with the championship and third-place contests on November 27. While matchups, tip-off times and television information will be announced at a later date it will be a unique opportunity for Texas to shine on the national stage.
This year the tournament field consists of Florida, Providence, TCU, and Wisconsin. The past two tournament winners have been Oklahoma in 2023 and Purdue in 2024. For the Longhorns’ 2026 class, it will be an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Currently, the Longhorns’ 2026 class consists of two four-star recruits in Joe Sterling and Bo Ogden. They have drawn the attention of scouts for their ability to create offense and put the ball in the basket. That should be on display in this tournament set to take place at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on the campus of the University of San Diego.
The news of the tournament comes at a good time for Texas, which lost its season opener to Duke. They will have the chance to get in the win column on Saturday when they face Lafayette in their home opener. Sean Miller and his staff will be looking to show the world why they were picked for the prestigious showcase.
