A new era in Alfred University athletics will dawn in 2026 with the opening of the Saxon Hill Sports Complex.
A $30 million athletics and recreation facility is under construction on Jericho Hill in the town of Alfred, about three miles south of the university’s Allegany County campus.
University officials said the project will expand Alfred’s intercollegiate athletics offerings, while “significantly increasing student enrollment and supporting student retention efforts.”
Saxon Hill will also facilitate growth in AU’s club and intramural offerings, the university said.
Major construction began in October 2024, with LeChase Construction of Rochester serving as project manager.

More than 400 parking spaces will also be available at the complex.
The project is being funded by a combination of bonds and philanthropic gifts. University officials said more than $10 million has been raised through philanthropy.
Saxon Hill will complement nearby existing sports, recreational and academic facilities, including the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park, home to Alfred University’s world-class equestrian program, and Foster Lake, which provides the campus community with numerous recreational and co-curricular opportunities.
