Early voting is Oct. 25 to Nov. 2 at eight sites in the county. On Election Day Nov. 4, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at various locations throughout the county.

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 25.

If Hoovler is reelected, this would be his fourth four-year term.

Hoovler said the office focuses on prosecuting crimes in three categories: guns, drugs and driving while intoxicated.

Earlier this year, Hoovler joined other officials to announce the arrest of 20 suspects and the seizing of dozens of weapons in what he said was the largest gun and drug trafficking case in the county’s history. Hoovler said guns and drugs cases are often connected.

DWI arrests are also a high priority in a county that lacks a county-wide public transportation system, he said.

But Hoovler said if reelected he also wants to expand technology so partner agencies including the sheriff’s and probation offices are connected and have access to all available information to prosecute cases.

“I want to see that come to fruition,” he said.

Former chief ADA Alan Joseph seeks DA spot

Joseph has worked as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, starting early in his career with the Legal Aid Society of Orange County.

From there, he went to the district attorney’s office, where he rose through the ranks.

“I was the chief assistant district attorney for five of the eight years I was there,” Joseph said.

Now, after several decades in private practice, Joseph wants to return to public service, and he said he wants to bring “more transparency and trust” to the district attorney’s office.

If elected, he said he will prioritize innovative solutions to addiction and crime prevention, implement a comprehensive training program for new prosecutors and promote open communication with law enforcement agencies and other community partners.
