The Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Cincinnati Bengals after a controversial pass interference call and a dropped pass on fourth down.
The Jaguars led the Bengals 27-24 with 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter and were on the Cincy 7-yard line. Head coach Liam Coen elected to leave the offense on the field on fourth down rather than kicking a field goal to put them up six.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw the ball to Brian Thomas Jr. but Thomas couldn’t reel in the pass, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Bengals drove down the field to the tune of a 15-play drive for 92-yards, with Jake Browning punching in the eventual game-winning score.
But not before a bit of controversy.
The Jaguars had Cincy in a fourth down situation from their 33 with the chance to win the ball back and likely put the game to bed. Browning tossed a pass to wide receiver Andrei Iosivas with rookie two-way player Travis Hunter in coverage.
Hunter swatted the ball away from Iosivas, but was called for defensive pass interference on the play.
The Bengals proceeded to move the ball down the field and score the game-winning touchdown to move to 2-0 on the season. The Jaguars fell to 1-1 after the loss, marred with varying opinions.
