INDIANAPOLIS — Late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor during halftime of Sunday’s Colts home game against the Miami Dolphins.
Irsay died May 21 due to heart failure, according to the Washington Post. Irsay served as the Colts’ Vice President and General Manager from 1984-96, before taking over as owner, CEO and chairman in 1997.
“You didn’t just lead a franchise, you built a football family,” Tony Dungy said in a video before the ceremony.
Irsay joins Hall of Famers Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James and other great Colts in the Ring of Honor. Most of the ring of honor was present Sunday. Irsay’s daughters Kalen Irsay Jackson and Casey Foyt unveiled their father’s blue jacket before Manning addressed the crowd at halftime.
“He was in the locker room after games, both home and away,” Manning said. “He loved the Colts, the horseshoe and was the kind of owner every player dreams of playing for.
“He didn’t just own the Colts, he bound us all together. His legacy roars with every one of you.”
