The Cincinnati Bengals will place much on the shoulders of young pass-rushers in 2025.
One of those is first-round pick Shemar Stewart, of course. But the other is former first-rounder Myles Murphy, who finally has a chance to blossom into an every-down player with more snaps available.
But over the last few days, Murphy has been missing from practice with an unknown ailment, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“Defensive end Myles Murphy has missed the last few days with an unknown ailment, making his status for Monday’s game in Washington (8 p.m.-ESPN) unknown. That would give Stewart his first start with the Ones after working with them Wednesday and Friday.”

When Murphy missed practice recently, Hobson notes that Stewart and Cam Sample were the top edges in practice, while Joseph Ossai only worked individual drills.
The 28th pick in 2023, Murphy played a career-high 40 percent of the defense’s snaps over 13 games last year, recording no sacks with nine pressures, five hurries and four knockdowns,.
The Bengals will still lean on a Trey Hendrickson-led rotation during the regular season, but the quiet training camp for Murphy, in addition to this absence now, is something to monitor.
