Off to a fast start during the first three training camp practices for the Jacksonville Jaguars is wide receiver Parker Washington, whose play hasn’t gone unnoticed by head coach Liam Coen.
“A really good start,” said Liam Coen of Parker Washington’s play. “I’ve been pleased with Parker. If you’re talking about guys who have gone up and made plays on the ball when it’s in the air, he’s done it. He’s got the right mindset, he approaches work the right way every day, he’s strong. He can work second level releases on people when they try to get hands on him. I’ve been very pleased with Parker the last few days.”
We know at the top of the Jaguars’ receiver depth chart are Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, and Dyami Brown, but Washington seems to sit firmly in that fourth spot and can have the opportunity to carve out a role and earn some snaps.
During the 2024 season, Washington’s role increased as the year went on. He finished with 32 receptions on 51 targets, averaging 12.2 yards per catch with three touchdowns, according to PFF.
Making Washington a good fit for Coen’s offense is his ability to line up inside and out, along with, as Coen mentioned, his ability to attack the second and third levels of the field.
In a system built on multiplicity, variety from the receiver position is a key element.
