A child who was riding a skateboard on July 11 died after being struck by a vehicle, Corpus Christi police said.
Officers of the Corpus Christi Police Department responded at 5:04 p.m. to a call of a major crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian at the Lulac Village Apartments on Horne Road, according to a news release from the police department.
Medics transported the child to a local hospital in critical condition, and the child later died, the news release said.
Follow-up traffic investigators who arrived at the scene found that the child was kneeling on a skateboard and traveling north in the complex parking lot when the driver of the vehicle, who was parked in a parking spot, began to back up, striking the child.
The driver did not see the child before the crash and immediately stopped, police said.
Police Lt. Eryca Gonzalez said the department is investigating the child’s position on the skateboard in relation to the vehicle when the crash happened.
