Neenah man facing multiple charges after Oshkosh police chase

OSHKOSH – A 46-year-old Neenah man faces multiple charges after a complaint of reckless driving led to a police chase on Witzel Avenue on Wednesday, July 9.

The man was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, felony eluding, resisting an officer, operating after revocation of a driver’s license, failure to install an ignition interlock device and having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

According to a release from the Oshkosh Police Department, officers responded to a reckless driving complaint of a vehicle almost running another one off the road near Highway 41 and Oshkosh Avenue around 2 p.m.

Police said the vehicle was found to have been involved in a single-vehicle crash prior to the incident.

The release added the vehicle exited onto West Ninth Avenue and appeared to hit a retaining wall before jumping the roundabout at the top of the off-ramp and then driving on sidewalks.

Authorities tracked the vehicle to a gas station near Witzel Avenue and South Koeller Street, where an officer attempted a failed traffic stop.

Police said the driver refused to exit the vehicle upon request before driving around a marked squad car over an adjacent terrace onto Witzel Avenue.

Oshkosh police chased the vehicle for a couple blocks until officers eventually stopped the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
