There was no shortage of podium appearances for Big Bend track and field athletes at the FHSAA state track and field championships at Hodges Stadium on the campuses of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
In total, five local athletes won individual state titles, including a pair of multi-event winners from Rickards. Alongside that, both Lincoln and Rickards finished in the top four in the 3A meet, with the Trojans third in the boys and the Raiders placing fourth in both the boys and girls divisions.
The Raiders were led by superstar sprinter Davion Crumitie, champion in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events, and all-around star Journee Belcher, champion in the long jump, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash. Both runners helped propel Rickards into the top four finishes, and the Raiders also added a state championship in the boys 4×100-meter relay.
The Big Bend area had a big showing on the field, with Lincoln’s Kennedy Scott winning a 3A discus title, Chiles pole vaulter Allison Davenport took home 3A gold, and Florida High’s Micah Deem won a state championship in the boys’ shot put in the 2A.
It was a strong showing for the Tallahassee area, which continues to be one of the top spots in the state for track and field talent. While there were multiple winners, the Big Bend also produced multiple top-eight finishers.
