A Pekin restaurant across from the Tazewell County Courthouse will close due to “escalating operational costs.”
Ashers Bar and Grill opened in the 300 block of South Court Street in 2022, less than a year after its previous location in Farmington was damaged by a fire on Thanksgiving Day.
“Due to escalating operational costs, including increased cost of goods and wages, we have been compelled to make this very difficult decision,” the restaurant said in a message on Facebook. “We are deeply appreciative of the support we have received over the past three years in the Pekin location. This was a very challenging decision, and we had hoped to establish a premier dining experience for all.”
Owned by the husband-wife team of Russell and Ashley Spencer, Ashers originally opened in Farmington in 2019, making a name for themselves with a pork tenderloin sandwich that was as big as a vinyl record.
The restaurant thanked customers in the Facebook post, saying they were appreciative of the support of the city of Pekin during their three-year stint there.
“We are immensely grateful for the patronage and support we have received,” the Facebook post said. “Thank you for your integral role in our business and for allowing us the privilege of serving you. We cherish the memories and relationships formed during our tenure.”
Ashers will remain open for regular business until July 13 or until supplies are exhausted.
