The FSU Seminoles are going to run a new offense in 2025 under offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. They are going to run the ball early and often, and they have several running backs who are looking to have big seasons.
247Sports believes one could be poised for a breakout season, with Matt Zenitz naming Jaylin Lucas one of the ACC’s breakout candidates. Lucas was limited to two games last season before suffering a season-ending injury, but is expected to be a weapon out of the backfield and as a returner due to his excellent speed.
“Dynamic playmaker that will be used in a number of ways — in the backfield, as a slot receiver and in the return game,” a source told Zenitz. “Has home run playmaking ability.”
He had just five touches in 2024 (two carries, three catches) but averaged 10.5 yards per touch. Lucas started his career at Indiana and showed his explosiveness there, averaging 5.2 yards per touch in 2023 and returning three kicks for touchdowns during his two seasons playing with the Hoosiers.
FSU’s offense desperately needs to be more explosive in 2025. They averaged just 2.9 yards per carry, and Lucas’ speed will give him a chance to help generate chunk plays as a runner, receiver, or by giving them better field position with an explosive return.
