A man is accused of trying to rob and carjack another man in the parking lot of a Barstow church this week, then fighting with police and trying to take an officer’s Taser before ultimately being subdued, law enforcement officials said.
The incident unfolded shorty after noon Tuesday in the 100 block of West Main Street, according to the Barstow Police Department.
“The caller told dispatch that he caught a Hispanic male adult breaking into his vehicle, and when he confronted the suspect, the suspect brandished a screwdriver,” police said in a written statement.
The would-be robber and carjacker ultimately fled empty-handed, officials said.
Police soon spotted the suspect less than a mile away in the 100 block of Avenue D.
“Officers attempted to arrest Frost; however, he resisted. During the incident, Frost tried to take an officer’s Taser from him,” the police statement said. “After a brief struggle, officers were able to take Frost into custody.”
Two officers suffered minor injuries during the struggle, officials said.
Raymond Leland Frost, 25, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, attempted carjacking, attempting to take a police officer’s weapon and resisting or obstructing police, San Bernardino County booking records show.
Bail was set at $50,000 pending an initial court appearance.
