ZANESVILLE – A Zanesville bakery has been named the best donut shop in the United States.
Donald’s Donuts, nominated in June 2025 by a panel of at least 25 experts, finished first in USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards best donut shop contest, according to a people’s choice poll that ran through the first weeks of June.
The honor is Donald’s first award from USA Today.
Messages left at Donald’s were not returned.
Donald’s Donuts, 2622 Maple Ave., has been making fresh donuts every day since 1960, noted the donut shop’s contest description.
“At Donald’s, there are over 40 donut varieties, so buying a mixed dozen is an excellent way to satisfy lots of different taste buds,” it continued. “This homey shop opened by Donald Warne is now run by second- and third-generation Warne family members.”
The contest highlighted small or local donut shops across the country with unforgettable charm, noteworthy atmospheres, and delicious donuts.
2024’s winner was City Donut in Orange Beach, Alabama. It came in second place this year.
The donut shop contest was part of USA TODAY’S 10 Best series that lets readers chose the top 10 businesses in numerous categories, including similar competitions for ice cream shops, cookies, and candy stores.
