IHSAA 2025 softball sectionals: See which South Bend area teams won championships

IHSAA softball sectional week has come and gone, and three South Bend area teams won sectional crowns.

The 2025 tournament started one week later than normal, as first-round games kicked off Memorial Day Monday, May 26. Champions were crowned throughout the week, with title games happening Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Here are the full results of the sectionals that were played at Mishawaka (Ward Baker Park), Goshen (Intermediate School), Plymouth (Centennial Park), Fairfield and Bremen.

Class 4A, Sectional 3 at Mishawaka (Baker Park)

Game 1: South Bend Adams 2, Mishawaka 1. The Eagles pulled off the upset to start sectional play on the Cavemen’s home field. Adams scored one in the fourth on an RBI single from Abby Kadar and the winning run in the fifth via an Avery Kidwell RBI double. Angela McNellis pitched a complete-game two-hitter for Adams as well. The victory helped Adams avenge a 13-3 loss to Mishawaka earlier in the season. The Cavemen, champions of the NLC, finish the season 21-8, while Adams is now 13-15.

Game 2: South Bend Riley 15, Michigan City 0 (5 innings). Elliana Gonzales pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts. The only runner to reach for the Wolves was a hit-by-pitch. Gonzales also smacked two doubles and totaled six RBIs at the plate. Lexington Jenkins added three RBIs as well as the Wildcats cruised.

Game 3: LaPorte 2, New Prairie 1: The Slicers avenged a pair of regular-season losses to the Cougars (14-3 and 15-2) with a huge upset win. New Prairie finishes at 21-7.

Game 4: Penn 15, Adams 0 (five innings). Ava Zachary had an eye-popping eight RBIs in the win for the Kingsmen. The senior star and Notre Dame recruit smacked a pair of home runs, while Logan Rumble also homered for No. 5 Penn. The Kingsmen got a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk from senior pitcher Liv Signorino and piled up 16 hits in the win.

Game 5: LaPorte 3, South Bend Riley 1. The Slicers’ upset train kept rolling in the semifinals.

Championship: Penn 11, LaPorte 1 (5 innings). Kingsmen won its 11th-straight sectional title.

Class 4A, Sectional 4 at Goshen (Goshen Intermediate School)

Game 1: Elkhart 13, Concord 5. The Lions exploded for 12 runs in the final two innings to pull away from the Minutemen, including eight runs in the sixth frame. Laci Stimac had two hits, plus earned the pitching win for Elkhart. Ambria Leedy had a double and two RBIs for the winners, who took advantage of seven walks in the final two innings. Janessa Bennett had three hits with a double and three RBIs for Concord.

Game 2: Warsaw 8, Goshen 7

Game 3: Elkhart 11, Northridge 2

Championship: Elkhart 5, Warsaw 0. The Lions reigned as sectional champs for the first time since the old Memorial and Central merged in 2020-21. Elkhart will travel to Penn for a one-game regional final this Wednesday, June 4, at 6 p.m.

Class 3A, Sectional 19 at Plymouth (Centennial Park)

Game 1: Saint Joseph 7, Mishawaka Marian 1. Myla Blazejewski pitched the complete game for the Huskies, allowing just four hits. Camille Potter had two singles and three RBIs for Saint Joe in the win as well.

Game 2: John Glenn 4, Plymouth 2. The Pilgrims scored two in the top of the first, only for the Falcons to respond with three in the bottom of the frame. They added an insurance run in the fifth to advance to the sectional final. Payton Thomas had a two-RBI double and Addi Manering what proved to be the game-winning single in the first inning for Glenn.

Championship: Glenn 8, Saint Joseph 5. The Falcons (14-12) will host Columbia City in a one-game regional final this Tuesday, June 3, at 6 p.m.

Class 3A, Sectional 20 at Fairfield

Game 1: NorthWood 16, West Noble 2. Victoria Vega had a home run four RBIs while Ana Beachy had three RBIs for the Panthers in the victory.

Game 2: Columbia City 5, Wawasee 4.

Game 3: Tippecanoe Valley 13, NorthWood 1 (5 innings). The Vikings overwhelmed the Panthers to advance to the sectional final. NorthWood finishes with a 15-9 record.

Game 4: Columbia City 10, Fairfield 0 (5 innings).

Championship: Columbia City 4, Tippecanoe Valley 2

Class 2A, Sectional 34 at Bremen

Game 1: Bremen 21, LaVille 1. Delainey Neher had four RBIs as the host Lions cruised.

Game 2: Jimtown 7, Winamac 1. The Jimmies knocked off the 20-win Warriors to advance to the sectional final.

Game 3: Knox 10, Bremen 0 (5 innings). Bethany Barnes pitched a no-hitter for Knox to end the Lions’ season.

Championship: Knox 4, Jimtown 2.
