THREE RIVERS — The Sturgis girls and Three Rivers boys claimed Wolverine Conference championships on Friday.
The sun-splashed complex at Three Rivers High School hosted the annual event this year. The SHS girls posted 185 total points, Otsego was a distant second with 125. Three Rivers scored 149.5 total points for the boys, finishing ahead of Otsego’s 117.
Sturgis won nine conference championships in the girls event. This included all four relay races. Eleena Kelley broke the school record in the discus event, tossing it 130 feet, 1 inch.
Sydney Bir, Tessa Hatt, Kinder Smith and Berkley Holtz ran to first in the two-mile relay with a time of 9:43.69. In the mile relay, Sturgis’ team of Smith, Holtz, Hannah Garbine and Bir posted 4:10.67 to win. In the sprint relays, the Sturgis team of Tenley Banaszak, Angela Cary, Garbine and Keyanna O’Tey ran to 49.59 seconds, the 800 relay saw Addison Eicher, Garbine, Bir and O’Tey post 1:44.13 to win.
O’Tey was named Most Outstanding Athlete for the meet for the girls. She ran to first in the 100 dash (12.16) and the 200 (25.14).
Bir nearly broke a minute in the 400 (1:00.10) and won the race. Kylie Brooks ran to a time of 48.89 as she won the 300 hurdles.
Vivian Massey was first overall in the adaptive shot put at 10 feet, 10 inches.
Cary was second in the long jump (15-9) and Kenzy Triezenberg was second in the pole vault at 9-6. Cary cleared 4-11 to finish third in the high jump. Kelley was third in the shot put at 34-7.
Holtz finished second in the 800 (2:25.55). Smith posted 1:02.09 for second in the 400, Garbine was third at 1:02.40. Banaszak finished second in the 100 (12.86).
The SHS boys placed fifth as a team with 58.5 points. Dawson Miller was third overall in the 110 hurdles at 16.73. The 800 relay team of Todd Guijosa, Jason Stutzman, Carson Eicher and Caleb Hohn ran a time of 1:33.04 to finish third.
The Three Rivers boys won five events at the championships.
Blake Stewart posted a leap of 22-2 to win the long jump. David Wells was first overall in the high jump at 6-4.
The Cats won three of four relays. Lamonta Stone, Stewart, Elijah Craig and Jeremiah Marzett ran a time of 43.42 to win the 400 relay. Stone, Market, Craig and Stewart posted 1:31.01 to win the 800.
In the two-mile relay, the Three Rivers team of Sulley Zietlow, Reece Howes, David Kore and Charlie Brauer ran a time of 8:13.36 for first place.
Stone was named Outstanding Athlete of the meet for the boys. He ran to first place overall in the 100 dash at 11.01.
Stewart finished second in the 200 (22.67) and Stone was third (22.95). Zietlow ran to third in the mile at 4:30.59. Carter Rice finished second in the hurdle events, running a time of 15.40 in the 110 and 40.62 in the 300.
The mile relay team of Zietlow, Rice, Brayden Carpenter and Brauer was second at 3:31.87.
Max Burg hoisted the shot put to a distance of 51-5 for second. Zander Barth finished third at 50-4.5.
