Xavier and St. Mary Catholic earned top seeds and a bye into the regional semifinals in the upcoming WIAA girls basketball tournament.
The tournament begins Tuesday, Feb. 24, with regional quarterfinals, followed by regional semifinals Feb. 27 and regional finals Feb. 28. Sectional semifinals are March 5 with sectional finals March 7. The WIAA state tournament is March 12-14 at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon.
Xavier, which reached the Division 3 state final last season, will play the winner of Green Bay East/Ashwaubenon on Feb. 27 in a Division 2 regional semifinal.
St. Mary Catholic will host a Division 4 regional semifinal Feb. 27 against Marion/Tigerton or Iola-Scandinavia.
There are three No. 2 seeds from the Appleton area: Appleton East (18-3) in D1, Fox Valley Lutheran (19-3) in D2 and Winneconne (16-6) in D3.
Kimberly, the defending D1 state champion, is a No. 3 seed. The Papermakers will play eighth-seeded Kaukauna in a regional semifinal Friday, Feb. 27.
