Longtime college football writer Phil Steele recently released his preseason All-Big Ten teams for the 2025 college football season. Notably, his linebacker selections feature Wisconsin starter Christian Alliegro. The rising junior, who seems poised for a breakout year, made Steele’s All-Big Ten fourth team
Despite the Badgers’ defense being quite disappointing last season, Alliegro was one of the unit’s few bright spots. He recorded 66 total tackles (44 solo, 22 assisted), three sacks, and one pass defended. The sophomore also ranked as one of the best pass-rushers among Big Ten inside linebackers, finishing as its eighth-best player in that regard.
Head coach Luke Fickell and defensive coordinator Mike Tressel made an effort to bolster the Badgers’ defensive line through the transfer portal after a lackluster season up front. Even with these reinforcements on the depth chart, none of those players will be as important as Alliegro, who is one of the only returning starters on the Badgers’ front seven.
Alliegro will lead the Wisconsin defense into its season-opening matchup on Thursday, Aug. 28, against Miami (OH).
