Wisconsin Department of Justice identifies person, officers involved in De Pere shooting

The Wisconsin Department of Justice identified the people involved in a July officer-involved shooting in De Pere as an investigation into the incident continues.

According to a Department of Justice news release, law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were dispatched to the Perkofski Boat Launch, 1500 Fort Howard Ave., in De Pere just before 1 a.m. July 26 for a report of a person with a rifle. The person with the rifle has been identified as Scott McDonald, 44, the release said.

Officers attempted to negotiate with McDonald, the release said, and shortly after, McDonald produced a rifle. Six officers discharged their weapons, and McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene despite officers immediately rendering aid, the release said.

The Department of Justice identified the six officers who discharged their weapons during the incident:

All six officers were placed on administrative leave, the release said. All officers were also wearing body cameras, which is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

The justice department’s Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, assisted by a Crime Response Specialist, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, the release said. Investigative reports will be turned over to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
