Wisconsin already in contact with Virginia Tech transfer cornerback

The Wisconsin Badgers are reportedly in contact with Virginia Tech transfer cornerback Dante Lovett, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Lovett entered the portal on Tuesday. He, along with the rest of the Virginia Tech roster, were given a 30-day window to do so after head coach Brent Pry was fired after the team’s Week 3 loss to Old Dominion. According to Nakos, the list of schools in contact with the sophomore cornerback includes Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Washington State and Wisconsin.

Lovett, one of the Hokies’ projected starting cornerbacks entering the season, appeared in all 26 games for the program in 2023 and 2024, starting two. He tallied 36 tackles, one for loss, one interception, seven pass deflections and one fumble recovery in that time. The cornerback is now in the portal with two years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin is looking to replenish its cornerback room entering 2026 after a busy offseason of departures from the room. Among the most notable underclassmen to transfer out are Amare Snowden (Toledo), Jonas Duclona (South Florida) and Xavier Lucas (Miami). Standout starter Ricardo Hallman and transfer D’Yoni Hill are also out of eligibility after the 2025 campaign.

Lovett’s recruitment will be worth watching as the 2025 season continues and the offseason transfer window nears. Virginia Tech and UCLA transfers are already on the radar for programs across the country after each school made a coaching change following Week 3.
