Fresh off its fifth straight SEC series win, Texas A&M baseball faces Tarleton in a non-conference contest in Bryan-College Station on Tuesday night.
The Aggies dropped the series opener against the Gators, but recorded 8-4 and 5-1 wins to claim their first series in Gainesville since joining the conference. Texas A&M head coach Michael Earley has his club at 33-8 (14-6 in SEC) and just 0.5 games behind the Georgia Bulldogs in the race for first place in the current league standings.
With series wins over Missouri, Vanderbilt, Texas, LSU and Florida, the Maroon and White have well-exceeded expectations, after being ranked No. 13 in the league’s preseason coaches poll. Texas A&M will aim to keep its momentum rolling against an in-state program on the rise.
Tarleton baseball enters Blue Bell Park with a 28-15 (8-4 in WAC) record so far this season. The Texans have played exceptionally in 2026, boasting wins over Baylor and No. 2 Texas, while holding a two-game lead in first place in the WAC. In the latest D1 Baseball Field of 64, Texas A&M is listed as the No. 5 national seed, hosting Wake Forest, UTSA and Tarleton, paired with the Lincoln Regional.
The Aggies must be prepared for infielder Slade McCloud, who leads the Texans with a .366 batting average, 1.037 OPS and 43 RBI. Five players, including McCloud, have secured five home runs or more, with Rayner Heinrich leading the team with eight.
Junior Juan Vargas is set to start on the bump for Texas A&M. The right-handed Tennessee Tech transfer has a 3.60 ERA with 16 strikeouts through 20.0 innings pitched. Tarleton will also start a righty, as Brendon Carter will be the matchup for the Aggie lineup. The senior from Edmond, Oklahoma, boasts a 5.79 ERA with seven strikeouts through 9.1 innings of work.
