Will Wisconsinites get another stimulus check? What to know about the proposed tariff rebate

Though residents in some states are getting checks this fall, Wisconsinites are unlikely to be among them.

New Yorkers are getting inflation refund checks in October, while some New Jersey residents are getting payments to ease the burden of high property taxes. President Donald Trump and other politicians have also floated a potential tax or tariff rebate for all Americans.

Meanwhile, as speculation about another stimulus check has circulated online, the Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers against scams that ask for your personal and financial information under the guise of a tax refund or new stimulus payment.

Here’s what to know about the status of stimulus checks in Wisconsin:

Will there be a stimulus check for Wisconsin residents in 2025?

There are no additional stimulus checks planned for Wisconsinites in 2025.

The last of the COVID-era stimulus checks had an April 15, 2025 deadline to claim. That payment was for Americans who were eligible for — but didn’t claim — the Recovery Rebate Credit during the pandemic.

Will there be tariff rebates or inflation refund checks coming to Wisconsin?

Since taking office, Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of a rebate for taxpayers from the revenue generated by his administration’s sweeping tariffs — though the president has not provided much further detail on the proposal.

Still, shortly after Trump mentioned the rebate checks, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley also introduced the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025. The bill proposes sending payments between $600 to $2,400 to American taxpayer families.

Any additional stimulus payment would need approval from Congress, and the Rebate Act has not received a vote. It’s unlikely the bill would pass anytime soon, especially amid the ongoing government shutdown.

Where is my state and federal tax refund? Here’s how to check:

Though stimulus checks aren’t coming, a payment that you can expect is your annual federal and state tax refund.

If you filed state and federal taxes electronically, then you should have received your refund within three weeks of filing, according to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and IRS. Paper tax returns, meanwhile, take longer to process and refunds should be issued within 12 weeks.

Most taxpayers have likely already received their 2025 tax refund, but if you filed for the October deadline extension for federal taxes, you might still be expecting your refund.

You can check the status of your Wisconsin state tax refund on the state’s online portal and the status of your federal tax refund on the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund?” tool.
