MANITOWOC COUNTY – After decades of seeing generations of students through the earliest years of their education, the Manitowoc Public School District is closing Madison and Jackson Elementary schools.
To honor the buildings and the people who attended school there, MPSD is holding two separate events in which the histories of the schools will be displayed and people will have the chance to share stories and memories that took place in the buildings.
Madison’s Legacy Celebration will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the school, 701 N. Fourth St.
Jackson’s Legacy Celebration will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the school, 1201 N. 18th St.
We’d also like to share people’s memories in the Herald Times Reporter. Tell us about your favorite teacher or the time your child lost their tooth on one of the playgrounds. What milestones did you reach as a student at Madison or Jackson? What kind of legacy do those buildings leave for the community?
Send an email to me at aschafer@usatodayco.com. Include your first and last name, your city of residence, along with a paragraph or two about your favorite memories and stories from Madison or Jackson elementary schools. Your thoughts could appear in a future article.
