The Wisconsin Badgers didn’t receive an automatic bid into the 2026 softball tournament, but all signs are pointing towards their multi-year drought coming to an end.
Yvette Healy’s squad hasn’t made the tournament since 2022. That tournament ended a three-year drought for the Badgers, a team that made it to the dance all but twice from 2013-2019.
Tournament success has eluded this team, but now things are starting to turn around. After an improbable upset over No. 2 Oregon in the Big Ten quarter-finals, Wisconsin seemingly punched its ticket, had it not already been punched.
This is a Badgers squad that’s been ranked in the mid-30s for most of the season, something that’s a great sign knowing the field is 64 teams.
With numerous automatic bids already sealed, Wisconsin is stuck waiting to hear its name called. Thankfully, they don’t have to let their five-inning, 19-5 loss to UCLA sit for long, as the brackets will be revealed before they know it.
