What we know about the Oneida County officer-involved death

LAKE TOMAHAWK − State officials are investigating an officer-involved death that occurred in Oneida County Wednesday morning, June 17.

At about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, two Oneida County deputies arrived in the 5000 block of Lumen Lake Drive in the Oneida County town of Lake Tomahawk to arrest a person connected to a felony investigation, according to a Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation news release. When contacted by deputies, the person pulled out and fired a gun, according to the news release. One deputy returned fire and hit the person.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, but the person was pronounced dead, according to the news release. No law enforcement officers or other members of the public were hurt.

Both deputies were placed on administrative assignment, per the department’s policy.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation and is assisted by a Department of Criminal Investigation Crime Response specialist, the Newbold Fire Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Minocqua Police Department, the Woodruff Police Department, the Rhinelander Police Department and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.
