What to know about Tyler Herro, former Miami Heat star traded to Bucks

The blockbuster trade between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat was headlined by Giannis Antetokounmpo, but it also included a player who has been known around the Milwaukee area for some time.

Tyler Herro, a former Whitnall High School standout, was probably the second-biggest name in the deal.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Herro. The Bucks are likely to spin him off into another trade that nets more assets for their rebuild.

But, for the time being, here’s what to know about Herro.

How old is Tyler Herro?

He’s 26 years old and will turn 27 on Jan. 20 in the middle of the 2026-27 season. That means he is right in the prime of his NBA career after being picked 13th by the Heat in the 2019 NBA Draft.

How tall is Tyler Herro?

The shooting guard stands 6 feet, 5 inches.

Where is Tyler Herro from?

Herro is one of the top players to ever come out of the Milwaukee area, graduating from Whitnall High School in 2018 after averaging a scorching 32.9 points per game as a senior. But Herro wasn’t named Wisconsin’s Mr. Basketball that year − Tyrese Haliburton, then at Oshkosh North and now with the Indiana Pacers, also wasn’t − with Kaukauna’s Jordan McCabe getting the honor.

Herro played just one year at Kentucky before being a lottery pick by the Heat.

Wait … didn’t Tyler Herro commit to the Wisconsin Badgers?

Yup, he did in September 2016 as a junior at Whitnall. However, it was a non-binding verbal commitment and he re-opened his recruitment a year later before choosing to play for then-coach John Calipari at Kentucky

What are Tyler Herro’s accomplishments in the NBA?

He joined the list of Wisconsin natives that became NBA all-stars with his selection in 2025. Herro was the NBA’s sixth man of the year in 2022.

During Herro’s seven seasons with the Heat, the team made the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023. However, a hand injury suffered against the Bucks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs kept him from competing in the subsequent rounds.

What are Tyler Herro’s stats in the NBA?

Over his career, he’s averaged 19.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He shoots 38.2% from 3-point range, 45.0% from the field and 87.8% from the free-throw line.

Herro’s career high in scoring came in the 2024-25 season in which he averaged 23.9 points per game.

His top-scoring game was 41 points against the Houston Rockets in 2022. Herro scored 40 points against the Bucks in February 2025.
