For the first time this season, the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs are set to do battle. The NL Central rivals will square off in a three-game series May 18-20 at Wrigley Field for the first of four series this season.
The Cubs won the regular-season series last season, 7-6, but the Brewers won when it mattered the most, defeating Craig Counsell’s team in a five-game divisional round playoff series in October.
It’s a new season, but the two teams, much like last season, are atop the division standings and will likely jockey for positioning in the ensuing months.
Following a slow start to the season, the Cubs erupted for two separate 10-game winning streaks, in which they won 20 of 23 games to get out atop the NL Central lead. But the Cubs (29-18) have scuffled of late, losing six of eight games and enter the series with the Brewers (26-18) having lost each of the last three series. All of those games, however, came on the road.
The Cubs are a different animal at home in 2026. They’re 18-5 at Wrigley Field and have an active 15-game home winning streak, the club’s longest since September 1935. They have swept their last four opponents at Wrigley and haven’t lost a game at the Friendly Confines since April 11.
Could the Brewers finally be the team to knock the Cubs off at home? Despite dropping the series finale to the Minnesota Twins on May 17, Pat Murphy’s squad is having a nice stretch as winners of 13 of their last 18 games, including 8-2 in their last 10. They have a 5-0-1 series record since late April.
The Brewers have also gotten healthier during this time, seeing the returns of Jackson Chourio, Andrew Vaughn and Christian Yelich from injury.

NL Central standings; Where are the Brewers in the standings?
All five teams in the NL Central continue to have winning records, entering play on May 18. It’s the only division that can tout that. In fact, each of the other five divisions have at least three teams with losing records. And the AL West doesn’t have any team above .500.
