Watch as Chicago fans chant ‘Green Bay sucks’ at Cubs-White Sox game

The northsiders and the southsiders in Chicago have opposing rooting interests for their baseball teams but they’re in agreement about one thing.

They don’t like that team from Wisconsin. And, in this case, we’re not talking about the Milwaukee Brewers.

It’s the Green Bay Packers. And they’ll let everyone know it … even during a baseball game.

At a stoppage in the Chicago Cubs-Chicago White Sox interleague game on Saturday, May 16, fans at Rate Field, home of the White Sox, chanted “Green Bay sucks.”

Besides the fact that they were at a baseball game, not a football game involving the Packers, it was an especially odd time for a chant like that.

Chicago fans were proclaiming it while the home plate umpire was being tended to after he was struck in the neck area by a foul ball off the bat of White Sox outfielder and Wisconsinite Jarred Kelenic in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The umpire, Brian O’Nora, eventually left the field and game with concussion-like symptoms.

But Chicago fans apparently weren’t too concerned about the ump. They are more concerned about expressing their disdain for the Packers.

Even one of the broadcast teams acknowledged the chant on air with a bit of sarcasm:

“While we have a moment here at Rate Field fans are able to join in unison and tell everybody how much they love Green Bay,” the announcer said.

The White Sox defeated the Cubs, 8-3, to even the series between the two rivals.

But the No. 1 rival, regardless of the sport, for Chicagoans are the Packers. After all, they’re often on the minds of Chicago sports fans and its players while not in season.

Two years ago, while then-Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams was at the Old Crow Smokehouse in Wrigleyville, “Green Bay sucks” chants rang throughout the restaurant. The 2024 No. 1 pick ate it up as he pumped his fists in the air to encourage the chants.

Then, last off-season, at Fanatics Fest in New York, Williams said on stage that Packers fans “suck.”

Williams and the Bears got the last laugh against the Packers last season. After the Packers won the first game, the Bears took the next two, including in a wild-card playoff game in Chicago that ended Green Bay’s season.

In 2026, the Bears and Packers meet in Week 5 on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Lambeau Field and then in Week 16 on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, at Soldier Field.
