I am writing to offer Wisconsin Republicans some answers following their defeat in the state Supreme Court race (“Wisconsin Republicans look for answers,” April 10).
Now, I am not a doctor, but I know it’s necessary for doctors to make a diagnosis before offering a cure. So, let’s take a look at what’s ailing state Republicans.
Since Scott Walker was governor, state Republicans have offered Wisconsin residents the following: Attempted to eliminate public unions (Act 10); gerrymandered the state; stuffed state budgets with policy bills in the middle of the night; underfunded the state Medicaid program; did nothing about PFAS; drained the public school systems of proper funding, while expanding the voucher program; gave repeated huge tax cuts to Wisconsin’s billionaires; and, offered us mostly awful candidates for the State Supreme Court (e.g. Michael Gableman).
Looking at the above should make everyone ill.
The remedies for this litany of ailments are simple: Offer decent healthcare coverage, well-funded public schools and daycare and paid family leave for medical emergencies; then, protect the environment, green the state against climate change and help family farms survive.
Of course, Republicans need to support the right to an abortion, support LGBTQ+ rights, legalize marijuana and tax the billionaires in this state so they pay some taxes. Oh, one last thing: since our taxes pay their salaries, how about scheduling some work days?
Like all patients, to get better usually means making healthier choices. Good luck, Republicans!
