The man injured in an attack on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus earlier this month has died, and campus police want prosecutors to pursue homicide charges for the suspect.
University officials said in a Sept. 29 statement the person died on Sept. 25 from injuries sustained in the Sept. 20 attack.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Mark A. Tiggelaar, 62, of Fitchburg.
An autopsy was performed Sept. 27. Preliminary results of the examination confirm Tiggelaar died as a result of homicidal blunt force trauma. Additional testing is underway, a statement from the medical examiner’s office said.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. that Saturday at 15 Breese Terrace in the parking lot next to Camp Randall Stadium. Tiggelaar suffered critical injuries in the incident and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
University of Wisconsin Police Department, which described the attack as an “unprovoked” targeted incident, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case, and maintain no threats exist to the campus.
Keith A. Jones was arrested in connection with the attack and booked at the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm, robbery and a probation violation.
University police are recommending the Dane County District Attorney’s Office amend the charges to include first-degree intentional homicide, the university’s statement said.
