Tom Durian, morning news co-anchor at WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), is leaving Milwaukee’s NBC affiliate at the end of July.
The Scripps-owned station announced the news on its website July 2.
“From new co-anchors to new strategies and everything in between, Tom’s provided a steadying presence in the morning and for that we’re extremely grateful,” Channel 4 News Director Tim Vetscher said in the Channel 4 story.
No reason was given for Durian’s planned departure in Channel 4’s announcement. But in a post on Facebook later on July 2, Durian, a Los Angeles native who started his career in California, said he is leaving to be an evening news anchor at KVVU-TV in Las Vegas, a move that “puts me closer to my family, and I am blessed for that.”
Durian, who joined Channel 4 as a reporter in 2017, was named morning news co-anchor in 2022. His last day on the air at the station will be July 31, Channel 4 said.
Durian’s pending exit is the latest in a swirl of change at Channel 4, especially in its morning newscast.
On June 26, the station disclosed that morning meteorologist Tyler Moore was leaving the station in July, and that meteorologist Kristen Kirchhaine was leaving, too, “to move closer to home.” Brendan Johnson, who joined Channel 4 as a weekend morning meteorologist in 2022, will move over to the weekday morning weather post on July 21.
In December 2024, Adriana Mendez was named his co-anchor on the morning newscast, filling the anchor chair vacated by Symone Woolridge, who left the station in November 2024 to be closer to family in Minneapolis — where she later joined KMSP-TV as an evening news anchor.
Durian joined Channel 4 from KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, where he was a reporter and news anchor from 2013-’16. Before that, he was a news anchor at WDJT-TV (Channel 58) in Milwaukee from 2011-’13.
